Magnolia x 'Cleopatra'
Magnolia 'Cleopatra' is a seedling
from M. 'Sweet Simplicity' x M. 'Black Tulip', which makes her
a "paternal aunt" to Magnolia 'Genie'.
The colour of Cleopatra is the same as Magnolia 'Lanarth' and is a rich reddish purple with a crystaline or metallic sheen. As a result the of the red/purple/blue pigment combination, it is very difficult to represent the colour accurately in any medium. The photograph below is the closest to reality that we have at this point in time.
Cleopatra forms an upright small tree with a narrow conical habit and in sheltered conditions will reach approximately 4m in 10 years.
